New research from pharmacologists at the University of Sydney provides some insight into why low-dose CBD products that contain a full-spectrum of cannabinoids appear to have therapeutic effects – even at low doses. The study found that cannabinoids in a cannabis extract interact to produce higher concentrations of cannabidiol acid (CBDA) – 14x higher. “The entourage effect holds that cannabis constituents interact to engender greater effects but there is little scientific evident to support such an assertion,” said associate professor Jonathon Arnold from the Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics. “Our study shows that different cannabinoids interact to alter plasma levels of cannabinoids themselves due to what we call a ‘pharmacokinetic entourage’ effect.”
